Genealogy of the Rigg, Hargleroad, Orchard, Mortensen and Allied Families
Cornelia Lee Mortensen congratulates her granddaughter, Estella Mortensen Orchard, on the birth of her baby, Roberta.
There’s a special connection as I hold this handwritten letter in my hand that our great-great-grandma Cornelia Lee Mortensen wrote to our grandma Stell in 1932 to congratulate her on the birth of her new baby Roberta, our mother. . . a connection to women in my life who have had such a tremendous influence on me, and a connection to a woman who I never met, though her strength of character, hard work, and dedication to family have now impacted many generations.
And there’s the connection of motherhood spanning five generations as I hold this letter from Cornelia. It gives me pause to think that someday I may have a great-great-granddaughter feel connected to me through some small thing I’ve left behind.
Hopefully you can feel a connection, too, as you read the digital version.
